That's the Sound of the Men, Working on the....Arena

Last weekend the boys brought out the big guns and got to work on trying to get our top rail up on our arena. They first had to get the roping boxes all measured out and those posts put in the ground. Then they had to finish putting the last corner in. We have decided to round our corners and that takes some extra welding time. But I think it will be worth it in the end. Little Cowpoke put on his "Superman Cape" and went out to help work. Never fear, Little Cowpoke is near! He would run back and forth, "helping" the big boys work. Little Cowpoke is always wanting to help out and get in there and get his hands dirty. He calls himself a "Working Man". It also helps to throw dirt clumps. Just look at the green grass trying to grow! Super crazy grass!! Don't you know it's January? That is my view from my back porch. I hope I don't regret having all that dust and dirt so close to my house! I wanted to be able to watch everyone ride their horses from my air conditioned house!! Whuahhahaaa!! Who am I kidding, I am going to defiantly be out there in all that dust and dirt! Cowpokette wishes she could be out in all that dust and dirt too!She is pointing to her Daddy wanting to go out with him. But she is still in her pajamas! I told her, "no", so she turned around and tried to find a way there herself. Here I was telling her, "NO!!!" and she just sat there shaking her head and saying, "Uhhh". She was going to crawl under the barb wire. Little Stinker. Then she tried to act like she wasn't interested in going under the wire. She was just sitting there picking grass. Yeah, I almost fell for that. Not quite!! See Belle? She is looking at me because I was standing there yelling, "NO! You come here right now!!" Cowpokette finally gave in and came back to the house. The men worked all day long. They were trying to get all the welding done before the rain came. The cows and one bull were all looking and wondering what in the world those crazy men were doing! I love how curious cows are. Then at about 2 in the afternoon the storm clouds started moving in. What is really cool about living in the south is you can actually see fronts coming. Can you see this one? And sometimes you can see fronts coming when you are driving, and you will be in the sun and then just ahead of you it will be pouring rain. It's really neat. But You can see the two arrows pointing to Mr. Cowboy and his Dad trying to weld like mad men? Then the rain came!!It first started sprinkling and they kept working. But that didn't last for too long. Then the flood gates were opened! And he was STILL working!!! Isn't that dangerous? Welding in the rain? I don't know too much about welding, but to me that seems dangerous. But they got just about all of the top rail finished. We have one more corner to weld and about 80 feet left of top rail. Hooray!! I am so excited. Watch out horses, here I come!!

Confession, I Love Hip Hop Dancin' and Lemonade

The other afternoon, when I should have been cleaning my house, I started watching MTV's show called "Made". It's where MTV goes and "makes over" people who want to become something new or different. The other day it was to make over three high school kids into Hip Hop Dancers. Mr. Cowboy and I have this thing for Hip Hop Dancers. We secretly want to become Hip Hop Dancers. We always watch movies that have something to do with Hip Hop Dancers. Here are a few of our favorites, that we own and watch over and over again. I really love the second Step Up. The dancing is really cool. And there is this one guy on it named Moose. He is an awesome dancer. His real name is Adam G. Svani, and boy can that boy dance. You can watch him dance here. He is the skinny one on the right. It's a short clip and really cool!! Then there are these movies. They are both really good. My Mom has watched them all with us and she liked them too. At the end of the movies they always play some really cool dance music during the credits, and the Cowpokes and I get up and try to dance like the people in the movies. But anyway, back to MTV Made. I was sitting there watching them do some moves, and of coarse I had to try them out. I so would love to be made into a Hip Hop Dancer! I think that would be so much fun. I could do this....Okay, so maybe I couldn't but I still think it would be pretty darn fun. There was even this huge online dance battle on You Tube. It was pretty cool. It was Adam/Chu Crew vs. Miley Cyrus with the M&M Crew. It was pretty cool to watch. I don't know how to put a You Tube video on my blog so here is the link to it, HERE.

One bad thing about Hip Hop Dancing is that it's really hard to do, and hard on your body, and let me tell ya, after 2 minutes of me pretending I was a Hip Hop Dancer in my living room, I was hurting. I think I pulled a few muscles in my neck and shoulders. I have been sore for about five days now. That's what I get for dancing when nobody is looking. I can get a little out of control.

But what could be better than some nice Lemonade after some Hip Hop Dancing? Nothing!! And I thank Train Wreck for giving me this award!! She had commented that there was nothing cuter than kids in a bathtub with a dog, besides, maybe kids in a lemonade stand with a dog. So, Train Wreck, this is for you!!Awhhhhh....the sweetness of it all. Okay, so I have a little time on my hands and my house is a disaster area. But now I have something to show for it. Thank you Train Wreck. So, here is what the real Lemonade Stand award looks like. The Lemonade Award is for blogs that show great attitude. When Tacking Up Takes Longer Than Riding....

My Cowpokes always ask to ride. And I get so excited when they ask to ride. So, when they ask, their Momma gets to work. We keep our horses out in a big 20 acre pasture. So, when one wants to ride, you either have to 1. walk into the pasture and get your horse, or 2. call all the horses in and hope they come. The horses will always come running if it's around feed time, but if you want to ride in the morning? Haa haa good luck getting those grubby guts to come in. That's why it's just easier to keep your horse stalled up over night. The other day Little Cowpoke wanted to ride Peanut, so I called all the horses in and they actually came running. Little Cowpoke and I brushed Peanut and then tacked him up. Tacking up a horse always takes me about 20 minutes or so. I am a firm believer in brushing before riding. That way if there are any cuts or swollen spots I will know about them. Peanut checked out okay and we ventured out to the round pen. We have not ridden Peanut in a few months, so I wasn't sure what he would do. Peanut has no idea what a round pen is. He doesn't get why I am following him around and trying to get him to warm up. He humors me, but he just doesn't get it. It seems funny to me that a horse has no idea what a round pen is, but he is about 20 years old and I am sure when he was broke out he just got ridden. None of that fancy smancy stuff. We are now at about 30 minutes and it's time for Little Cowpoke to get on. Peanut is a little "people sour". I have let him follow me around because I am worried he will "take off" into the sunset with my three year old. So, I always walk in front of him. But that makes it really hard to take pictures of my little budding Cowboy. I finally got them to walk away from me. It didn't take much effort but Little Cowpoke was being kind of silly that day. And yes my child is wearing a muscle shirt and shorts in January. And yes, that is green grass. Craziness. They then turned back to the middle. I have a really hard time trying to get Little Cowpoke to walk the entire way around the pen. Now, if you put barrels in front of the child, he will know exactly what to do, but with nothing to ride around he gets confused about riding on "the rail". They stopped in the middle and Little Cowpoke turned him around and declared that he was finished riding. I think he was in the saddle a total of 8 minutes. So, I told him he had to at least give Peanut a pat for being so dang good. And that was it. I tacked up Peanut and warmed him up for a total of 30 minutes for a ride that was over in 8 minutes. At least Peanut got out and was "worked" for a bit. And at least Little Cowpoke did a little riding. Some time in the saddle is better than no time. I need to get on Peanut and ride him around for about a week and then I will feel better about my Cowpokes getting up on him. I just always think that cooler winter weather, plus horse, equals energy. But Peanut sure doesn't seem to follow that equation, and I am happy for that.

Splish Splash.....

They were taking a bath. Then along came Belle........ Belle, the killer attack dog, will jump at the chance to save her kids from the evil water splahes!! Belle would jump up on the side of the tub and try to eat the splashes. It was too funny. The kids would splash and Belle would get a running start, then jump up on the tub to eat the splashes. The kids were cracking up, and making quiet a mess. There was water everywhere. Opps! I don't think Belle made it that jump!! She is so clumsy still. Her front paws are so huge. Plus the tub was super slippery, I am sure that didn't help at all. "Belle, Come Here!! Come on Belle!!"Belle got to lick Cowpokette's face. Then there was the crazy approach. Belle would jump up and twist her front end around with her tongue hanging out trying to catch some of the water! It was just too much fun for all involved. And the clean up wasn't too bad either. I got to mop the bathroom floor. It was due for a good washing anyway. It's so much fun to actually have a dog that likes to play with my kids. My other dogs have always been big couch potatoes. They were good for loving on, but they weren't much in the fun playing department. It has been an adventure for me to train Belle, but she is super smart and really willing. And the kids love to play with her. Plus Belle has started getting protective of the kids. She will bark when someone knocks. She will also try to defend Brodi dog. Brodi is scared of the kids cork gun. So, when the kids have it ou,t Brodi tries to hide, but the kids chase him anyway, but now Brodi has back up. Belle will get in front of Brodi and bark at the gun. And she will jump back and forth as the kids wave it around. I love that she is not scared of anything. And she isn't afraid to stick up for a friend. I am sure Brodi appreciates all Belle does for him. We were lucky to get such a good girl.

Rodeo Banquet

We had a great time at our rodeo banquet this afternoon. They had brisket to eat and everyone brought a side dish or desert. It was all really good food. Then they went through some announcements and thank you's. Then they did a little presentation for a girl named Savannah. She rode in the rodeo club. She was not older than 15. She died in a car accident not long after our rodeo season ended. Savannah's favorite color was pink, so, all the kids go to take a pink balloon and go outside and all together let the balloons go. Savannah's mother was also there to accept a gift from the rodeo club. It was a scrapbook of pictures bound in a tool leather cover. It was really special and very sad. Savannah's Dad mad some leather crosses with her initials on them for everyone to put on their saddles or bridles. It was a really nice gift from her father. I could only imagine the pain of loosing a child. My heart goes out to their family. After the ceremony, they gave out the year end awards. Everyone who participates gets a bunch of goodies and belt buckles. Then the top two winners get special prizes. The Champion gets a saddle, which were very nice with colored ostrich skin seats, and Reserve Champion gets a really nice saddle pad with cow hide and their names engraved in the leather on the pad. It was all really neat. So, here is all our loot from the banquet. All four of us got hay bags. And the hay bags were filled with more goodies. Everyone got a fun pair of muddy boots, t-shirt, feed scoop, huge box of brushes, tie down, and belt buckle. It really was some fun stuff. I love the kids' boots. Big Cowpoke's rubber boots were brown and Little Cowpoke's boots were black. Very fashionable. I love that they look like cowboy boots. My boots just had a fancy design on them and Mr. Cowboy's rubber boots were just plain brown. They didn't have any fun designs in the men's sizes. Men are no fun. Then there are our belt buckles. I am not sure if this is a new fad that is coming out or what, but I haven't seen belt buckles like these before. The main part of the buckle is a rust color. I think I am a fan of the shiny bling belt buckles. But then again, I might just be old school, and these types of buckles might be all the rage. Here is Little Cowpoke's buckle. He rode in the "Tots" division. Very cool. He was really excited about winning his very first belt buckle. Then there was Big Cowpoke's buckle. He rode in the Midgets division. That division has some serious competition. The ages are 7-10 and boy can those older kids ride!! You have to be one heck of a dare devil 7 year old to keep up with those kids. Then there is Mr. Cowboy's buckle. They accidentally put that Mr. Cowboy rode in the Junior Division. Which I think is funny. Mr. Cowboy said they could leave it because he isn't going to wear the buckle, so it doesn't make a difference. Mr. Cowboy has a trunk full of buckles plus a buckle showcase full of buckles. He doesn't get too excited when he wins a buckle. But me, I get really excited, because I have only ever won one buckle. So, this is my second buckle to win. Can you see that? I was the Rookie in the Senior Division. I was the highest scoring new senior. Even though I trotted around most of the barrels. I am such a scaredy cat. But when everyone else is flying and knocks down barrels, the I guess the slow and steady one wins!! So, I was pretty excited about my buckle. And I think my buckle is really cool looking!!

We are thinking about trying out a different rodeo club. They ride from February til May, and then pick back up again in September. It's nice to have the hot summers off. Plus with Big Cowpoke spending most of the summer with his Dad, he will get a chance to rodeo. The first rodeo will be February 7th. That is coming pretty soon. But we still are going to rodeo with the same old club. We really like how family oriented it is. They are great. And we have a really wonderful time. We will have to see how the other group pans out. Big Cowpoke would be the only one riding and the rest of us would just wait for our normal club to start. We had a great time at the banquet and can't wait for rodeo season to begin again.

Clover, Clover, Everywhere!

With this stretch of warm weather all the clover in our yard has really taken over! It's insane. It's not just a small patch of clover we had a hill of it. Our house is built up on a hill. The clover is covering our entire yard. Belle is about 14 inches tall and you can see just how tall this clover is. Doesn't this clover know it's January? It's out of control. I wish that this clover would flower and be pretty, but it doesn't flower, it just grows like a weed! So, with all this green stuff, we had to mow our yard in January. Yep, that's right. We weed eated the ditches. Which before i moved here I called it "weed whacker", and now I have conformed to "weed eater". The things the south has done for me!! Can you see the grass flying up in this picture? The sun was setting and glaring off the grass pieces. It was pretty cool. I tried some different settings on my camera. Yeah, I have totally not mastered that. Maybe I should stick to the auto mode!! Whauahahaaa!! It sure smelled like spring time after he cut the lawn. I love the smell of fresh cut grass. But it didn't take too long for the sun to set on the grass cutting. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. We worked on welding the arena and tomorrow we have our rodeo club award ceremony! I am so excited for that!! I was in the running for Rookie in the Senior division!! But we will have to see what tomorrow brings!
