Well, the Vet came out, and it wasn't my favorite Vet. He is a younger guy than the normal Vet that I use. They all work in the same office. But for some reason this vet likes to act like he knows everything. It aggravates me. But that's besides the point.
He came out knowing I wanted an x-ray, and then told me they don't have an x-ray machine strong enough to shoot through the shoulder. Sigh.....but he looked at Luna and his assistant looked at Luna, and they both think she broke her Humerus bone. They think the elbow is fine and she still moves her leg to get flies off of it. They both think that she will heal up just fine and walk normal some day. I don't know about that.....but I am willing to give it a try.
I was going to take some pictures of her today, but I will wait until this afternoon. I have been giving her some bute and I hose off her leg just to cool it off for her. So, we are going to wait 6 weeks and see what that brings. The Vet and Mr. Cowboy agreed that we can always put her down later and it's worth a try.

Awww, I'm so sorry! :( I hope she does heal up just fine!
Oh man, that's rough....but how can anyone be sure without x-rays?
Can you take Luna into the vet to have her x-rayed? Then you'll know if it's really broken or not and you can spare her...and you, the pain of waiting 6 long weeks.

Prayers for Luna and you Andrea. Keep us posted when you can, but know no matter what we're all out here thinking of you guys and praying for you.
I hope it's not broken and she heals quickly. She's young and healthy so there is that working for you. Maybe you could take her somewhere for x-rays?
Hope she heals up quickly. We are at the end of our rope with Mojo. His leg is not better and I think we will be putting him down. :(
Best of luck!
I am so sorry, I hope she heals quickly and doesn't have any problems once healed!! Will be thinking of you!
I'm sorry. You've had your fill of broken bones in the family this year. I took a cat to the vet that broke its leg once, and was surprised to be told to just leave the cat alone and the leg will heal on its own. The problem there was that we had coyotes and this was a wild, outdoor cat that didn't have a home. I wanted to spare it from being eaten, so I paid to put it to sleep. Luna will be safe from predators, though. I'd give her a chance too.
I think you've made the right choice. She's not a riding horse yet anyway. She's got at least a year to heal and grow and then you can decide if you want to keep her for brood or riding, depending on her soundness. If she's able to walk, even a little, I'd be very optimistic for a full recovery. Poor Luna, poor you!!
Well, I'm glad there is a glimmer of hope that she may recover! I'm sorry you've had this string... first ozzy, then cowpokette and now poor luna! Yikes- you deserve BIG hugs!
Oh my gosh poor girl! The good news is I know a gelding that had a break in the same place and he was 14 and hes still sound and ridable now 5 years later.
Oh, I hope she heals right. It is good she is young.
Oh hell. I'm sorry. I hope that 6 weeks gives you a better idea of how she's doing. It never ceases to amaze me how horses can get over leg issues with the correct time off and good shoeing through time. We had a baby way back when break her front leg. It was bad- snapped the foreleg-but we set it and figured we'd use her as a brood mare. That's exactly what she became, but in hindsite she set up just fine and would have been a perfectly good riding horse too - the break was never noticable after about a year.
Keep us updated and good luck!
So sorry to hear about Luna! Will be thinking of you and her and pray that she heals in the next few weeks! They are like our babies, sometimes men don't seem to understand that do they?
*jingles* for Luna and I am thinking of you:(
