Bring On the Competition!

Every Valentine's Day, Big Cowpoke's school has a shoebox competition. Have you ever made one of these? I remember making shoebox mailboxes for Valentine's day cards. We would put them out on our desk and then pass out our Valentine Cards. It was a lot of fun. But I remember my box being wrapped in pink construction paper and cut out hearts on the sides. And if I was lucky, I might have had a fancy doily on it. But not at Big Cowpoke's school. It's a big thing. They have a competition and everything. With prizes!!

Last year I did not know about how competitive the Valentine's Day Boxes were. Last year we had a huge boot box and we made an awesome western scene. I thought we were going a bit crazy with all the decorations. Little did we know that my sister in law was making three shoe boxes look like a wedding cake. And when they had the competition, the judges said that Big Cowpoke's box was not "Valentine's Dayey" enough. So, this year, Big Cowpoke and I went all out. We are ready for the competition!Okay, I got carried away and made the kids some fun heart shaped glasses. They loved them. But can you see his box? Is that pink and red enough?I made the rodeo arena and the bleachers and Big Cowpoke wrote the words on the banner and he poured the glitter on them. Big Cowpoke also picked out and glued on the rodeo men. There are two clowns in the arena with the bullrider. Big Cowpoke also wanted two men climbing on the arena fence. So, we glued them on the fence. We even added some Lego Cowboys to the stands. Doesn't every rodeo have red heart railings? So, there you have it. Our Valentine's Day Shoebox. Now, it's not a wedding cake, but at least it is covered in pink, red, and hearts! Big Cowpoke did a good job. He glued down the arena dirt, complete with glitter, put on all the hearts, made the banner, and was a gluing fool. I hope he at least makes it to the top three this year. We also had some little helpers. Little stinker!! She tried to drool on everything we had. Then she would steal all of our rodeo men and run away screaming. Sisters, sigh....She tried to play the cute card. Can you see how wet her shirt is? I am about done with the drooling! I am not sure where she learned how to smile like that, but she can repeat it over and over again. That same exact face. See!! Rotten little girls. But Big Cowpoke took his shoebox to school today, and the voting will be tomorrow. I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for him!!

I'd be drooling all over that shoebox too. It looks like candy.

Hope he wins a prize - best cowboy valentines days box I have seen.

When I was little my schools competition was serious like that. One year me and mom went all out and won it. But it was such a hassle we only did that once - for the rest of my grade school years I was content to have moderately cute box.

Wow, what a feat to even get a little boy interested in doing that!!! That's adorable. I don't really remember ever making fancy boxes like that, but that's cool!!

I loved helping to make things like that..It's great that the kids are challenged to something like that. But I don't think they should have said it wasn't 'Valentine" enough. That seems a bit mean...but I do hope he wins..but if not, the point was he had fun and did his best..I am joined my teacher and Mom speech..LOL...

I can't believe the pressure to have the perfect valentine box. We spent day's deciding on a design for the girls boxes. I am just glad that we don't have a competion. Good luck cowpoke!!!

WOW! I remember making the paper bag and decorating it and taping it to our desks!
Savannah and them did big paper bags this year and decorated them and played mailbox all day long. That got to check them this afternoon at the party! You should see all the candy and goodies she got! I made the Jello thing from Gourmet mom and took to the party. Let me first saw it was a huge hit! The kids and parents loved it! It was super easy to make and such a cute idea! Have you tried it yet?? I also cut heart shaped marshmellows and put in her lunch today!
