Rodeo Club

Today was our second rodeo for the new club we are trying out this year. I had all the kids dressed like it was 10 below!! They all had long johns on under their pants, and two shirts, a thick sweat shirt, and winter jackets. Yes, I have become a softy for the cold ever since I moved to the south. I was dressing them like they were going skiing. By lunch, the temperature was 62 degrees. So, they were a bit over dressed. But it's always easy to put on more clothes. Around 2 pm a cold front moved in and we were all cold, so good thing we had all those warm clothes. We even brought our propane heater, but we didn't use it. There was a group of people who had their,s up and running though. I was sure grateful for a covered arena. I missed all the ground events and the barrels. Cowpokette and I went to church, and missed the beginning of the rodeo. And would you believe it, I only took three pictures the entire time I was there!! One picture was not even worth posting. I had my SLR, but the battery was dead. I plugged it in to charge and just never got around to using it. So, I used my point and shoot to take all of the huge three pictures. And I have to be honest. I didn't even take the third picture. My sister in law did. The kids always have a lot of fun at the rodeos. They love being around the other horse riding kids. But after all the riding and running, some just get tuckered out. Little Cowpoke was plum tuckered out. He fell asleep in his chair with his head on the bleachers. He was so filthy. And yes, that child does sleep with his eyes semi open. Creepy! I should have taken a picture of the huge camper rig that was there. The owners of it said they had to bring the big camper bus thing because their youngest gets cranky if she doesn't have air conditioning. As you can see, my kids don't have a problem sleeping where ever their heads rest. I did manage to get two videos of Big Cowpoke riding Peanut. Please ignore the poor quality of video, they are taped using my point and shoot camera. The first one is goat flipping. Big Cowpoke is used to tying goats in the other rodeo group we ride in, so he thinks this event is silly. But it's fun, non the less. Big Cowpoke ended up getting 8th place in goats. He was a bit slow at getting to the goat. I told him that next time, all he has to do is ride Peanut right up to the goat and jump off and flip the goat. The lady holds the goat the entire time.

Then I got to film him in Flags. This is his favorite event. He won second place in flags this time. There are about four girls in Big Cowpoke's age division that are speed demons, they normally run flags in about 10 seconds or so. But today all four of them missed. Big Cowpoke did the flag race in 18.414 seconds. A bit slower than last rodeo, but still very good considering he would only walk and barely trot last year.

But the day ended around 6 pm for us. I was glad to get into the truck and head for home. Nice dry home. Sundays are rough for playdays, with having school the next day. It was nice to end a bit early and get home in time to give the kids baths. I hope you all had a great weekend.

Well good enough! Big Cowpoke did a fine job. I really like to see those little ones get their horses stopped before they bail off. So much safer.

Little Cowpoke-too cute! It's a good sign when your kids can sleep anywhere(or so my momma says;)

I have a kid that sleeps with his eyes cracked as well. Freaky is quite descriptive.

Big cowpoke did a great job, I enjoyed the videos, but... all I could see was my little Flower (goat) being flopped by a bunch of kids. :-( But I am sure it was fun for the kids and on second thought my Flower should be flopped a few times. She can be quite bossy. LOL

How FUN!!
The video is GREAT!

I'll be sure to not let Norm or Poncho see the goat flipping though, they might take offense :)

I love the picture of the little guy fast asleep. I'm sure it was a tiring day for everybody but I'm glad you all had a great time.

Oh my goodness that little sleepy head is just precious! What a great picture! Big Cowpke did just a wonderful job! I sure wish we had something like that around here for the kids to ride in. Of course right now they would still be riding in two feet of snow!!!

THis is EXACTLY how I knew your life would turn out, even when we were roomies at the 'Stead. So fun! I love your down-home-country-style adventures.

LOVE that sleeping picture! For not having your "real" camera, that sure is a winning shot. :) And just think--you didn't have to put up with any of the bulk of your SLR.
