This Just Couldn't Wait!!!

We interrupt the normally scheduled blog post of our Rodeo Weekend, to announce that Blaze had her foal this morning!!! I knew she would be this week, sometime, but I really thought she would make it to her due date of March 25. Blaze was bred weeks after Pearl, and had her foal first. This morning Big Cowpoke and I were outside waiting for the school bus, when I asked him, "Hey, let's go and see if Pearl had her baby!" Then I saw Blaze standing in the back of the pasture. I saw her white blaze and then I saw another white blaze, and sure enough, Blaze her her foal this morning! Big Cowpoke and I saw a little foal loping circles around Blaze. I got all excited and did a little squeal and ran into the house to wake up my father in law. In the mean time, the bus showed up and Big Cowpoke told me he would look for paint spots as the bus drove by! He is so sweet. So, I am sure every one would like some Foal details. So, with out having to wait another moment, (because I have been waiting for 11 months) here is our first foal of 2009. She is a filly. I just knew Blaze would have a filly. She has four white socks and a star with a stripe on her face. She is a healthy looking girl. She is a bit bigger than the foal that Blaze had last year. But not much. She is a feisty one. She is really strong for being born this morning. She has a little white under her chin. It goes from the corner of her lips and wraps around the back of her chin. She has a big star and a little stripe. But not a bit of white on her muzzle. I took Little Cowpoke and Cowpokette out to see the filly. Little Cowpoke was so excited. He wanted the baby to come out of its stall and play with him and his tractors. I convinced him it was better that the baby stay with her momma. He settled for brushing the baby. Belle got to meet the new foal too!! Belle was so close to the back of Blaze. But Belle isn't scared of much. I was yelling at Belle to get over by me. The dog listens really well...... Belle got her sniff in and was satisfied with that. Belle was just curious about the small horse. After the mares finished eating their morning grain, we moved them to the barn by out house. We will keep Blaze and her foal inside a stall for about a day or so. Then we will let Blaze and her foal out in the center of our barn for more room. I like to keep them in for a while so I can play with the baby. I told Little Cowpoke his job would be to brush the filly every morning, while I held her. I moved Pearl to the side pasture. And would you believe, that 11 month pregnant mare went galloping, yes GALLOPING, down the fence line with her tail sticking straight up in the air! Pearl was so upset being taken away from her best girlfriend! Does that look like a mare that was due on the 17th of March? Yeah, I think not. I know when I was pregnant and over due, I sure wasn't running all over the place and acting crazy! I think I have another few weeks yet to see her foal. She always goes about a month over. I was just hoping this time she would have her foal a bit early. But a huge Congrats goes out to Blaze, she has a beautiful filly.
