Saturday was our Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Race! It was our little troops first ever Pinewood Derby race. So, there was a lot of waiting time while we got things together, but all in all, it was great! The kids had fun and that is all that matters! The race registration started at 8 am. So, we all had to get early to get ready. I do have to say that neither car was finished. While I ran around like a chicken with its head cut off, Mr. Cowboy put the wheels and such on the cars. It was a close call! The boys sure were excited though. Big Cowpoke and his Tankity Tank. He had to have some flames on it. Little Cowpoke was so excited about his Mach 5, that he dropped it. We only lost a small part of the spoiler. But that is okay, it gave the Mach 5 some character. While the track was getting set up the kids had a bike safety talk from the Sheriff. The kids all were so good while the Sheriff talked. I think I might need him to come to my house on a daily basis. They were all so still and they listened so well. Maybe I should start packing a gun and then I will get some respect. The only gun I have is a squirt gun, you think that would work? While the safety talk was going on, Cowpokette confiscated some little boy's bike. She wanted to ride so badly. She is almost big enough to ride that bike. I don't think she has the balance for it though. Yesterday she fell off of Little Cowpoke's bike and got a black eye. Sigh....After the Sheriff got finished telling all the kids how they needed to ride with helmets, the kids went out and rode through an obstacle coarse. They had to stop and look both ways for traffic and go through all sorts of buckets. Big Cowpoke went "muddin" with his bike the day before and it was all sorts of muddy. But that didn't stop him. Then Little Cowpoke tried to ride his bike with some training wheels that were way too big for his bike. It just wasn't working. So, we broke out the big wheel. Little Cowpoke had a blast. He is all into "driving" and going fast! He tells me all they time, "Momma, you can call me Speed." He really loves that movie, Speed Racer. After the bike fun all the kids went inside for the BIG RACE!! The Scouts lined up all of their cars and then gathered around their Cub Master for some directions! This was the part they were waiting for! The Tankity Tank actually did really well. Considering its size and all. You know, tanks are really built for speed. He actually won a few races and got a lot of second places. Big Cowpoke ended up winning fourth place over all. He was so excited. This was every body's first year for making Pinewood Derby cars and I think we had a bunch of fun cars. Big Cowpoke with is good friend! The boys were all so excited the entire day. We had a little intermission while scores and such were tallied up. So the boys went outside to learn about the ambulance and to learn about some first aid. The kids even got to go inside the ambulance. They were really excited. Such a horrible picture, but it was one of the only ones I got of Big Cowpoke in the ambulance. Cowpokette wasn't too sure about being in the back of an ambulance with a boy she really didn't know too well. This is Big Cowpoke's best friend and Side Kick! They are always having sleepovers and going muddin and just plain being boys! They are both learning how to rope, I can see them now, team ropers.....sigh........ Anyway, back to the races. Cowpokette really enjoyed watching all the big kids have fun. She is such a ham and a mess from eating some spaghetti. When the boys went back inside to the races, they had one final round to determine the winner. Then the parents and siblings raced their cars. The Mach 5 left all the other cars in the dust! Do you love that car in lane two? The Dad that made that car said he rain out of time, so he named his block car the Generic. It was too funny. The Generic car gave the Mach 5 a run for it's money on the second run. Is anyone else singing, "Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer GOOO!" No, I was the only one? Little Cowpoke was so proud of his little race car. Even with a chip out of the spoiler. The boys had a great time! The leaders all did a great job. I can't wait until next year. We are already talking about what designs we want to do next year.
And still no baby from Pearl. I am going to say she will have this baby some where between the 10th and the 15th of April.

How great! What a great thing for the kids to be involved with and LEARN from! Cool!
Rum was due on the 20th. I've given up...
The 'lighter' wood on the blog is crumpled paper 'paper' and then changed to transparent. I messed a little more with contrast and color too. I'm thinking I like it but am not sure yet.I think I want something up by the header to sort of 'lock' in the look per se. It just seems to be floating there. Maybe some barb wire or something that wouldn't affect the actual posts....we'll see!
Another fun day down at the Swamp.
My two older children are visiting this week and we had a little Easter egg hunt yesterday. I looked at them and wondered where all the time went. Today, this post of yours brought back more memories of those early days with my oldest in cub scouts and pine wood derby cars and the like. Loved it. Thanks.
It looks like it was a great day..I am behind and catching up. I really enjoy your blog posts Andrea... Michelle

What great fun - pine wood derby time was a big day at our house - I so wished I was a boy so I could be in boy scouts and do that too!
What a great day! It is neat to see kids so actively involved in something that they have invested time into. Little Cowpoke riding the big wheel cracked me up. Do you think Cowpokette will do Girl Scouts (or Brownies) when she grows up?
That last big wheel picture of Little Cowpoke is priceless! His big ol' smile kills me. :) Looks like a fun day was had by all.
I bet that post took you forever to do. I really respect that in a fellow Blogger, long posts! :)
Love ya.
Just a thought....where is big cowpokes helmet after the talk from the sheriff on helmets? That made me laugh to see the pic of him on his bike with no helmet on. Hee, hee!
