Ima Sonny Miss

Ima Sonny Miss, aka Missy, is almost ready to be weaned. She is such a spunky little girl. She is the filly that is always running around the pasture acting crazy. She is halter broke and we have led her a few times. We did some imprint training with her. I would go out every day and brush her and rub all sorts of things all over her. But then she got bigger.
Missy got a mind of her own. Missy doesn't like to be brushed too much anymore. I did not have too much luck with my imprint training. I have only read a few articles about it. I am sure I did not do it long enough. I do know it makes a lot of difference in a young colt's life if it is just handled daily. I am going to try imprint training on my two foals being born next March. Does any one have any ideas for good effective imprint training?
I also received some photos in an email from a friend who bred to our paint stud. The baby was born two years ago and we never saw its photos. But I got an email just the other day with photos of the little filly. She is too cute.
It's so crazy how the gene pool works with paints and color. You just never know what kind of spots you will get. Missy is a solid paint and the other filly has such loud color. It's amazing. We don't have much going on here. Tomorrow is Big Cowpokes birthday. He is 2000 miles away from me. That is a bit farther than he was 7 years ago. I can't wait for him to come back home.

Wow, your friend's foal got a good dose of color!! Little Missy is a cutie. Hopefully she'll lose some her sassiness before she becomes a teenager! ;)

Imprinting...I can't offer any advice, unfortunately. Mikael over at MiKael's Mania Arabian horses might be able to help?

Don't worry Andrea-your imprinting worked I am sure. The biggest thing that I have noticed is that foals always go through that sassy stage but they are so much gentler after they are weaned. They still struggle some and try to get away with stuff but once you work through that-they get very gentle. Where I have really noticed the difference using imprinting is picking up their feet and handling their head-foals that have been imprinted don't seem as freaked out about being touched all over.
Funny-I was just going to do a post about Shitter....uhhh I mean Shooter. He has turned into a butt-head.

Love the paint! So pretty. I'll never understand all these crazy horse color genetics things. I guess that's why I have you to explain it all to me.

Hello, I am a transplanted Louisiana girl living in Central Washington State. It is so nice to find some Louisiana cowgirls out there. How do you like La? My family all still live down there near Minden which is near Shreveport. I get to come home on occasion and I miss it very much.

Hey Andrea, it's me the transplanted La girl again. Where in Wa is your sister moving? Small World is right. My sister would be thrilled to recieve a comment, hint hint. She just started blogging yesterday and says she has no clue how to fancy it up.

Love that paint filly! Beautiful. My brother-in-law did a great job imprinting their foal. I think I'll ask him what they did.

Happy birthday to your son. I can only imagine how hard that is for you to be away from him!
