Under Construction

Mr. Cowboy got right to work back on the Derby Cars after his incident with this saw!
I really think there has to be a better way!! That just seems dangerous for a small boy to be using that saw on a small block of wood. Come on, just see what happened to Mr. Cowboy's finger!!Here he is show Big Cowpoke how to sand the Tank! Big Cowpoke can't wait to try sanding his tank. He keeps saying, "You can only go one way. You have to go with the wood!" He is really excited. Apparently, so is Cowpokette. Little hamfatter!! (oh hee hee hee!)
Mr. Cowboy then showed Big Cowpoke how to use the "power" tools. And see that bandage? That is where he tried to dismember his finger! But, I am nice, and only showed pictures of his finger all bandaged up. And Big Cowpoke is still watching. I need to talk to Mr. Cowboy about letting Big Cowpoke try sanding his tank. And I also need to talk to them about putting something under the sandy mess. Look at my table!! UHG!! Boys! But here are the two cars so far. This is the "block" of the Tankity Tank!! Big Cowpoke is so excited about having a tank. We need to put a cannon on the front of the tank. He is going to paint it camouflage with flames! Here is the Mache 5.Okay, haa haa haa, that is not what our Derby car looks like. But I hope it will end up looking some what like that. I might have to redesign the front end of the car. Hmmmmm......Well, here is the Mache 5I need to make a "M" type design on the front end. I hope we can do it!! This car is the one that busted Mr. Cowboy's finger. That is why it is still mostly in the block form. But there you have it. Our Derby Cars. I am not sure if Mr. Cowboy is going to make one for himself. They are having a Parent's Race. We will have to see.

Boy I remember doing derby cars with my oldest boy. He was upset because he was the only kid whose mom helped build the car. He did win best looking car and took second in the race.
Glad your husband's finger is doing okay

Ohhh fun!!

I took a sculpting class one time that included wood carving...you can't imagine how many times I cut my fingers working on those projects. Enough so, that I decided that wood carving was not for me-LOL.

Letting him do a tank is a great idea. We did a hotdog in a bun when my brother was in cub scouts and he won the design award. He didn't care about how fast it was, as long as it looked cool. :))

I remember when my boys done the derby races. FUN FUN!!!!!! Gosh, I really miss those days. Ummm.... the post earlier about the horse. I'm not the trainer but here is what I do. I start off making her give to the bit and learn how to work on leg pressure. Set a barrel up, put an old tire about 3 ft from the barrel like your going into it. Just make sure you put pressure to the inside leg, and take your outside leg and pump her rearend over. I try to do large figure 8's and then work to smaller ones. Mainly getting them use to leg pressure and them learning when I pump with my outside leg for them to get their rearend over. I'm going to be working with my mare today and I'm going to try to take pictures and maybe that will help ya.

Just look at those derby cars!!! I wish that my son would join Cub Scouts, but he has no interest. I even told him that he would learn more outdoorsy stuff than he already knows, but he didn't take the bait.

Hope that finger is healing well!!!!

I had to laugh, I find myself "helping" the kids with their projects. They just seem to not do quality work that us adults can do. :)

Like the pictures, especially the grin on Cowpokettes face, very cute, thanks for sharing the project, and I hope Mr. Cowpokes finger is not too sore.

My girls were in AWANA, at the church. We built a fleet of "bob tail" trucks. Each hauling heavy equipment, logs, milk or a boom. I did it all with a dremal tool. The kids sanded and painted. They all won first in something. The log truck won in speed, beating all of the hot rod cars. That was fun.
