He Did WHAT????!!!!

Last night was the worst night ever! Cowpokette was sleeping wonderfully until about 11:30 am when she woke up screaming bloody murder. Nothing made her happy. I tried everything. She just wouldn't stop screaming. I finally got her to go back to sleep when she woke up at 2:00 am screaming again. So, this time Mr. Cowboy took over and couldn't get her to stop screaming either. The girl didn't have a fever or anything. She would just scream. So, last night Mr. Cowboy and I went to the ER with her to find out that nothing was wrong with her. We were lucky and were the only people at the ER at 3 am. Very nice. We were out of there and back in the car by 4:30 am and then back home at 5 am. The ER Doctor did say that maybe she had an ear infection but because she had so much wax in front of the ear drum he couldn't really tell. He did try to clean it out but she screamed. So, he gave her a shot of antibiotics and some pain meds that finally knocked her out. She slept until 12 this afternoon. So, needless to say I didn't make it out to see my foals this morning.

But when I looked outside what did I see? Yes, what is that you see Cowpokette? Is that Pearl and her 5 day old filly running away from the herd of horses out in the big pasture? Yes, you are right, it was Pearl and her 5 day old filly out in the big pasture with barb wire fence and lots of other horses! Let me tell you, after a night of no sleep and a screaming baby, I was fit to be tied. "You don't make my Momma mad!" My father in law just thought I wasn't home and I didn't go out to check on the mares so he took it upon himself to turn out my 4,000 dollar filly in the huge pasture at 5 days old! I was waiting until Cowpokette woke up so I could go outside and see the mares and foals. "Oh my Momma is mad at YOU!!" We have this rule around here that we don't turn out mares and foals until they are at least one week old. Pearl's filly won't be a week old until Monday! I want to know why he thinks he has the right to turn out my mare and her foal? And if he didn't think I was home, then he should have called me and asked me why I hadn't been out to the barn yet. Or even better, called me and asked me if he could turn out my super expensive foal. Which I would have told him NO! "Let me think about this......" I just don't know why my father in law just can't call me and ask me about my horse. I know she is in his barn, but I clean up after them. I don't ask anyone to feed them or clean their stalls or pick up the hay. I clean the water buckets. Why, oh why can't he just leave my mare and foals alone for once? "Yeah, You Mister, she is talking to YOU!!" Two years ago, my father in law paid 250 dollars to breed his mare and he got this really cute palomino filly. That mare and filly stayed in the barn for about two months. Then the pair was turned out in a separate pasture for about another month or two. Then finally they were aloud to go out in the big pasture with everyone else. So, since when does a 250 dollar foal get better treatment than one I paid 4 grand for? Just because it's mine, that's why! I can't ever have anything nice.

Just the other day I was telling my father in law how I would have to keep the foal stalled more when weaned because I plan on showing her in weanling halter and then in yearling lunge line so I need her to be kept up nice. So, then the very next day, he goes and turns my mare and foal out. I just don't get it. But I need to go and get Cowpokette's prescriptions filled and get some food because we are totally out. Hopefully I will calm down by then. Deep breaths!

Ai! Some people eh? Sorry. Glad everything's alright. I'm super anal about my babies too.

I really should move out by you so I have someone to show with. I have a girlfriend here who is awesome at showing her horses, but can I get her to do it? No! She just doesn't have horses in her blood per se, she just has a gift she wastes...and in the meantime I can't afford to show alone ( or have the in's she does). Blah!

What DO these people do all day while I'm working horses and messing around outside? Watching TV or what?

No - Rum obviously has no baby and we had a HUGE storm again! You'd think that would do SOMETHING!

OH HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!

Your father in law is LUCKY, I'm not his daughter in law, cause after I got my mare and foal up again...hopefully without incident...I would have kicked his (you know what!!).

Dude! That is how babies DIE! What a complete JERK! I hope your husband stands up for you on this, because what his dad did is just wrong!!!

A few years ago, my brother's girlfriend at the time, called to say her good mare had foaled a beautiful black stud colt(by our old stud). She was so thrilled. A few days later she called sobbing. The foal was dead. The guy who owned the place she kept her horses at turned the mare and foal out with the rest of the horses...so the mare could get some exercise...what a complete idiot!!...and the herd ran the baby to death. They found it tromped into the mud. That would have been the last foal by our old stud, he was put down the fall after she bred her mare. It was a devastating loss and she was heartbroken.

Oh no! I hope the foal was ok and you were able to round them up safely, too.

What was he thinking?

I hope your lovely girl is feeling better today and sleeps well tonight...for hers and your sake.

Last night our GSD had the 'squirts' and we were up every hour when she cried to be let out. Hubby and I both slept until noon today. We were wiped out!

Breathe deep girl... breathe deep... and don't make the old man bleed too bad in front of the babies.

Speaking of babies, how is Cowpokette?? Hoping to hear that she AND the filly are OK!!!

Yes mikey is right - deep breath - maybe get some shut eye before father in-law pays his dues for the over sight. Sometime guys some guys anyways just don't put a whole lot of thought into those things they just do stuff...

Sorry I know he was not much a help - but give yourself some time before you bring it up....

Hubby definitely needs to be playing interfearance here. Sometimes they have to stand up to their own family because they'll just keep pushing the envelope with you. Would he have covered that $4k if something HAD (god forbid) happened.

Let me know if the ER doc gave you any suggestions on cowpokette's ear wax issue. Ours said the same thing about our little guy, and we were attempting to use that ear wax cleaning kit and didn't see hardly a difference at all.

I bet you feel better now after such a successful rant. I just love to vent it all out. You should see my personal journal. Whoopeee. I am not so nice sometimes. You on the other hand, are quite the lady. Pissed off maybe, but still a lady. Way to go. Hope cowpokette is better. It could be night terrors, although they usually go away once you get them fully awake. good luck.

Glad to hear the little ones (both of them) are alright. Hope your father-in-law will start to listen to your wishes, maybe if his boy speaks to him...

Oh, shit is getting real at the Swamp Suburbia! I have a boss who reminds me a lot of your father-in-law, he thinks he's the only one who can do anything...so he often takes it upon himself, blah blah blah.

The shirt Cowpokette has on is too cute - I got one at Old Navy, but I think I got a different color. ;)

First...I am glad that your little Cowpokette is okay. Screaming babies and trips to the emergency room at night are not fun!!!

Second...I am sorry that you are having trouble getting your FIL to understand where you are coming from. Makes you want to say "Hello McFly???" as you tap his head (think Back to The Future).

Wow, wow! What a post. Clearly he doesn't read your blog. ;) But, I'm sure at this point you could care less whether he reads it or not.

I'd like to hear what he had to say about it. You did give him a piece of your mind, didn't you?

Girl I'd go with you to see HM! He he he! It was a great mother/daughter time! Walmart is great! I bought 3 shirts for $9!! I thought that was a great deal since just one shirt would have been more than that! All of her HM stuff has been bought off clearance. That put it on clearance so fast anyway, wait a few weeks or a month and get it for a fraction of the cost! And another place I have found alot of HM stuff is the Dollar General and Family Dollar. I have bought her several small HM things for her birthday there. It is on the 30th, she will be 7! Can't believe that! And she will be in 2nd grade! I'm defintely have trouble with this birthday, she's growing up too fast! Well, didn't mean to rattle on girl! Have a great Monday!

It is hard to figure out what is wrong when they won't tell you. Hope she is okay, such a sweet baby. I don't mean to nib in, but why does your father-in-law go against you when the horses and foal's are yours? Sorry, but I get mad when somethings don't seem right. Your pictures are so nice of the horses and the foals.
