Underwire is the BEST!

Not only is underwire the best invention ever to hold the girls where they belong, but I think it saved my life. Okay, so it didn't SAVE my life, but it sure did take the brute force of a hoof. Yesterday afternoon I went out to the barn to let out Pearl and her filly. Pearl always gets excited to go out in the pasture. We have a small isle way between the middle part of the barn and the stalls where Pearl likes to trot or lope down. Well, yesterday morning she went into the isle way and I opened the pasture gate and she came on down. But her filly didn't follow and turned and went the opposite way. So, Pearl was in the big pasture and the filly was in the barn still. Uhg........So, I had to go and get the filly and try to walk her back out to her mom. Pearl was not about to go back into the barn. Pearl just looked at me like, "Hey, you! Go get my baby!" I was in my good clothes and flip flops. So, I slowly walked back into the middle of the barn where the filly was pacing the fence. I caught her like I always do with one hand behind her and the other on her chest and I turned her around to walk towards the gate. She started to go and Pearl actually came back in the isle way. So, I let the filly go. The filly saw Pearl and went to run off and her hind left hoof kicked up and got me right in the sternum. I let out a big, "Ugh!!" sound. It was like being punched. It knocked the wind out of me. I wasn't able to move for a bit, until I caught my breath. I checked myself out and felt okay besides the fact that I felt like a 2x4 just hit me right in the middle of my chest. One thing I am grateful for is my underwire bra! The wire was bent, but I am pretty sure it helped a little in decreasing the blow. I wasn't too sore yesterday but today it is a little swollen and bruised. It's a bit sensitive to touch. But you know how much I walk around with my hand in the middle of my chest............yeah, so I don't notice the pain too much. It is sore to give my kids hugs. They squeeze me extra tight. But I feel fine other than that. I am really grateful that she doesn't buck very high. If so, I might have lost some teeth. Or if that hoof had hit me in the neck, OUCH. So, considering all things, I was pretty lucky. I am actually getting ready to go out and ride Ozzie. I missed riding him yesterday. The horse must feel like he is on vacation, getting days off during the week. Those pictures of Josephine were taken when she was a week old. She is a lot bigger now. I will have to take some pictures of her today. She is all filled out and looking very nice.

I never thought underwires were good for anything. I avoid them like the plague, because they dig into me. I'm a sports bra gal, but also not terribly well endowed. A sports bra wouldn't have helped much in your case.

WOW! You are lucky. I kind of got lectured today at my stable on how I need to be make sure I am careful when letting Dusty go to free play in the arena. The stable manager was just wanting to make sure I was being cautious so I didn't get kicked. Dusty did kick a young teenager once who worked at his last stable, but the owner said it was her fault totally, because she ran up behind him and and didn't let him know she was there and he got scared. He has NEVER done that deliberatly. Take care of yourself, and be careful!!!

love my underwire! It saves me from bouncing! lol - us well-endowed gals must have support!

The filly looks awesome! My little guy still is pretty crooked, but not as bad as from when we started. I'm going to talk to the vet again early next week and we'll see what they say.

The only thing that would have done a better job is one of those nifty padded safety vests.

Baby Doll has been known to buck as she is let out of the paddock into the pasture. I suppose I should count myself lucky that I didn't get hurt in that way, too. One time her hooves were so close I could feel the breeze on my face from them flying through the air. gah!

I'm just so relieved that you're relatively ok. I'll take a few bruises over any body parts broken, ripped, strained or sprained. :~O

Of course the first thing that went thru my mind....how swollen, like third boob swollen? I know, I'm not quite right. Glad you're okay!

lol! That reminds me. My friend went riding with me once and she has very big...ahem, assets. When we were done riding (cantering and galloping and everything) she says to me "I think I might have two black eyes!" I laughed so hard.

Like wife, good thing you don't have a third boob.

Goodness, glad you are okay! I know I hate underwires and avoid them at all costs! Glad they are actually good for something!

Yes, the sternum is much better than your neck or face....goodness! It's amazing how fast those moments happen....and how close we can be to being pretty darn injured! I'm glad you are okay and can't wait to see pics of JoJo getting bigger and hear more about your rides on Ozzie!

Wow! So glad you are okay. Do you have a hoof print bruise? I took a blow to my chest and chin from an airbag - thought I wouldn't catch my breath ever again. Hope the soreness leaves quickly!

I have an underwire story - I was making a fast barrel run at home before I headed to a rodeo the next day, I rounded the first barrel and was down too far, hooked my bra on my saddle horn. Whipped around the second one before I got the wire to pop off the horn! Those wires have some holding power!!

I'm so glad your sternum wasn't broken. After Max's surgery, I learned from watching him what a painful break that is. I'm sorry you got hurt, but I'm so happy you still have your teeth!

What a beauty that little baby is. :)

Oh goodness. I am so glad you are ok. That could have been really bad, of course you know that. Tell the kids what you want for Mother's Day is soft hugs.

My daughter is very well endowed and wears only riding bras always. They keep her girls tucked where they need to be and are very sturdy.

So glad you were saved by 'the wire" hee, hee. Our young mule did that to me last year, it was totally unintentional, and she did not leave me with a third boob, but I felt it all the same. Now I am more of a scaredy cat when she runs around all frisky. Be careful, babies just don't have good manners yet.

Cute pictures chickie!!

I know all about that - I was double barreled in the chest by a yearling gelding once - broke two of my ribs. Count yourself lucky it wasn't worse. Do ya got a little hoof print shaped bruise? Aren't those just kute? (being sarcastic there...)

But agree with the underwire statement!

It's funny how the little ones do the most damage!
I'm glad you're okay.
